The Sweet Smell of the Holidays!

Posted on June 10th, 2008 in Weekly Entry by willywonka

My favorite holiday is Christmas!  I love seeing my family! My cousin comes down from MA and it’s almost like a big reunion. I am a big Italian and my grandmother is all about her culture and old ways back in Italy with her parents. An Italian tradition on any holiday is for everyone to have a glass of wine. My dad, an old bartender, knows just what kind of wine is perfect for our family. My dad also knows his meats because his father owned his own butcher shop. He knows how to make the perfect meal for our home. I can’t tell you what “it” is because “it” changes every year! When my mom’s side of the family comes over, my dad still cooks, but my grandfather brings cheese, lots and lots of cheese. Where dos he get all this cheese you ask? Well, from his cousin in Italy. He owns a cheese factory in Italy! I haven’t been there before, but I saw pictures and it is HUGE! I guess our traditions never change. My favorite, of course, is the presents!! And my grandparents really know how to buy them too!! Now that I am getting older, I really appreciate money! You’re never too old to love the sweet smell of cash!

My Home- An Amazing Place (Australian School)

Questions:

1. What is the best thing about living where you do?

2. Tell is why your school is unique?

My Answers:

1.  The best thing about living where we are is definitely the people! Yeah, the weather is nice, but the weather won’t matter if there weren’t any nice people to enjoy it with. Every day when I walk down the street, I see at least 5 people waving saying hello, how are you, what’s new, just making small talk. That’s pretty rare. Many people today have their own opinions on different topics and are very stubburn and stern in what they believe in. I love how where we live, people can have a nice conversation without getting into a fight!

2. Our school is somewhat unique. Normally, I would just think of it as a normal school where kids go to school in the morning, sit in a chair all day, learn, and then go home in the afternoon. However, in our social studies class now, we have wikis and blogs and many other schools don’t have these things. We can go on the internet and interact with other schools across the globe and I think it is really cool how our wikispace is at the top of other majorly known wikispaces in the world.

High School (to be more specific…)

Posted on February 5th, 2008 in Weekly Entry by willywonka

High school is around the corner! (Not literally, it’s across the street, but I think you know what I mean!) When the guidence councilor came in to explain everything, I was starting to feel a little nervous about starting a new school, but I don’t care about that now, what I really want to focus on is the classes! I’m already having a nervous break down because my math teacher put me into honors geometry, however I want to talk about the posotives with you. When I was looking through the little book they gave us, something caught my eye. It was journalism! I know what your probably saying, “You don’t like to write essays, there’s a lot o writing in that class, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah”, but I think I would like this class. As you know, I think, I LOVE to tell stories, I think it’s my god-given talent! I thought, if I can tell stories, what’s the difference of writing them down! I was alittle disappointed when I figured out that I can only take it as an alternative, but what the heck, as long as I can do it next year I’m happy! You never know, I guess what I learned is not to judge school until you actually go there and give it a whirl for yourself, then you can judge it! No I’m just joking, but if you want to judge it, I’m sure you’ll love it!

The Essay…

The Essay

This video means so much to me. Not only it tells people that cell phones are great, it also showed me that nothing you think of is stupid! This little girl has an idea of what the future will hold and she isn’t afraid to tell everyone about her idea. Everyone she told thought she was crazy and all the kids in her class laughed at her. This little girl ahs taught me to speak what is on your mind and don’t let words or actions bring you down. NOTHING can stand between you and your dreams, so NEVER give up!

Strange, but True…

I have always idolized Julie Andrews. In fifth grade I wrote an essay on her FOR FUN!! I know, shocking! Anyway, I loved Mary Poppins and one of her recent movies was The Princess Diaries. All her movies were amazing and to top that she had an amazing voice AND SHE COULD DANCE! She was a triple threat and was very funny. She did a comic bit with Carol Burnett (also amazing). She also starred in The Sound of Music which is my personal favorite movie of all time! She had so many tributes to life and to the world. She could put a smile on anyone’s face every time her face showed on the television. I wanted to be just like her when I was young because I wanted to be an actress and every time I am one stage doing what I love to do (acting) I always do a good job because I think of how I can be just like Julie Andrews.

I Wonder What Will Happen…

Posted on December 6th, 2007 in Weekly Entry by willywonka

i-wonder.jpgI wonder what life would be like when I am older. I know his sounds redundant, however it is very important to me and I have always been fascinated by what my future holds. Will I be a successful physical therapist? That has been my dream since I was in 6th grade. Or, will I be a actress? That was my dream from 1st grade to 5th grade. Not only my career, how about my family? Will I have a son and daughter and a husband. Will my parents or grandparents still be alive? How about my 2 older brothers? Also, how will the environment change? Will cars be improved to not pollute the air. Will people be more considerate to animals? I guess the only way to figure these questions out is by waiting and seeing.

Volcanoes

Posted on October 25th, 2007 in Weekly Entry by willywonka

I never knew that volcanoes can be so fascinating. I read a blog about volcanoes and I was drawn in by the facts. The person who wrote this blog did a great job explaining everything. I say this because he/she talked like a professional scientist. I could understand somethings, but not all. Other blogs that I considered was a blog about dogs. I truley love dogs and I always wanted to learn as much as I can about them. I wrote this at my grandparents house and I asked my grandfather said, “Why don’t you write about volcanoes?” So, I did. I learned that volcanoes are more follwed and studied than I thought. They have webcams and maps and reports on them just to make sure that they don’t explode. I now realize that what they do is very smart because if a volcanoe explodes and people live close to the volcanoe, they can easily die. Howver if the scientists or people who watch the volcanoes, can warn everybody to evacuate to be safe. I wish that the author could have made this a little more understandable to younger kids and make it a little more exciting, but the facts were great. This is a post from the blog,

We’ve been following the volcanic activity for several months now, fascinated with the option to watch the volcano in action as well as to read and learn about what is going on around it. The web cams are fascinating, as are the historical videos of activity on the volcano. The live web cams can be frustrating though, as the nights are long in Alaska right now, so catching the volcano during the few hours of daylight makes it challenging.

This helps me state my point because the author even says that they were facinated by the facts of volcanoes and what they found put about the volcanoes with their webcams. My comment was,

When reading this blog I thought how facinating volcanoes actually were. I never knew that they had webcams watching over volcanoes. Because of this post, I am now more interested with volcanoes! Great Job!

A question…

I want your HONEST opinion…

I always say… Even if your at the top, live at the bottom. This means if you have it all in money, clothes, or even looks… act like you don’t know it… don’t flaunt it. Remember this is my opinion. For example, there is this kid and he/she has it all. Looks (some people would say, not me), wealth, clothes, skills, personality, everything and he/she flaunts it like no tomorrow. This annoys me sooooooo much because this makes people who are totally the opposite feel horrible about themselves. But I resently found out that this person is a pretty mean kid and because he/she dislikes somebody, he/she doesn’t even bother to recognize this person and is pretty rude. Would you agree with my saying. Do you think I am right or is he/she right? Tell me your opinion!

Blog Action Day

Posted on October 18th, 2007 in Weekly Entry by willywonka

When I first heard what we had to do with the blog action day, I was pretty happy. I love learning about the invironment and I did more research than I had to with this. Our environment is beautiful. I would love to walk outside to a bright blue river with birds singing, the sun shinning, only some white cluds in the sky, and the bright green grass glittering like after a light rain. Unfortunately, I have never seen that.=( My opinion is that cars have polluted our air with the gas fumes. People have also destroyed our air by smoking. Smoke is in the air everywhere I go and I think people who are smart and don’t smoke shouldn’t have to ruin their own health, but that is getting off topic. I am talking about the environment! Anyway, people can tell a lot of things by the way it looks. You can’t say the saying don’t judge a book by it’s cover with an environment, because it can’t tell you otherwise. You can see what the people think of their environment. My environment is great. It’s clean, safe, and everyone is friendly. Anyones environment can be perfect, but only the people living there can make it that way. I always say don’t be afraid to make a difference.
