The Sweet Smell of the Holidays!

Posted on June 10th, 2008 in Weekly Entry by willywonka

My favorite holiday is Christmas!  I love seeing my family! My cousin comes down from MA and it’s almost like a big reunion. I am a big Italian and my grandmother is all about her culture and old ways back in Italy with her parents. An Italian tradition on any holiday is for everyone to have a glass of wine. My dad, an old bartender, knows just what kind of wine is perfect for our family. My dad also knows his meats because his father owned his own butcher shop. He knows how to make the perfect meal for our home. I can’t tell you what “it” is because “it” changes every year! When my mom’s side of the family comes over, my dad still cooks, but my grandfather brings cheese, lots and lots of cheese. Where dos he get all this cheese you ask? Well, from his cousin in Italy. He owns a cheese factory in Italy! I haven’t been there before, but I saw pictures and it is HUGE! I guess our traditions never change. My favorite, of course, is the presents!! And my grandparents really know how to buy them too!! Now that I am getting older, I really appreciate money! You’re never too old to love the sweet smell of cash!

My Home- An Amazing Place (Australian School)

Questions:

1. What is the best thing about living where you do?

2. Tell is why your school is unique?

My Answers:

1.  The best thing about living where we are is definitely the people! Yeah, the weather is nice, but the weather won’t matter if there weren’t any nice people to enjoy it with. Every day when I walk down the street, I see at least 5 people waving saying hello, how are you, what’s new, just making small talk. That’s pretty rare. Many people today have their own opinions on different topics and are very stubburn and stern in what they believe in. I love how where we live, people can have a nice conversation without getting into a fight!

2. Our school is somewhat unique. Normally, I would just think of it as a normal school where kids go to school in the morning, sit in a chair all day, learn, and then go home in the afternoon. However, in our social studies class now, we have wikis and blogs and many other schools don’t have these things. We can go on the internet and interact with other schools across the globe and I think it is really cool how our wikispace is at the top of other majorly known wikispaces in the world.

High School (to be more specific…)

Posted on February 5th, 2008 in Weekly Entry by willywonka

High school is around the corner! (Not literally, it’s across the street, but I think you know what I mean!) When the guidence councilor came in to explain everything, I was starting to feel a little nervous about starting a new school, but I don’t care about that now, what I really want to focus on is the classes! I’m already having a nervous break down because my math teacher put me into honors geometry, however I want to talk about the posotives with you. When I was looking through the little book they gave us, something caught my eye. It was journalism! I know what your probably saying, “You don’t like to write essays, there’s a lot o writing in that class, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah”, but I think I would like this class. As you know, I think, I LOVE to tell stories, I think it’s my god-given talent! I thought, if I can tell stories, what’s the difference of writing them down! I was alittle disappointed when I figured out that I can only take it as an alternative, but what the heck, as long as I can do it next year I’m happy! You never know, I guess what I learned is not to judge school until you actually go there and give it a whirl for yourself, then you can judge it! No I’m just joking, but if you want to judge it, I’m sure you’ll love it!

The Essay…

The Essay

This video means so much to me. Not only it tells people that cell phones are great, it also showed me that nothing you think of is stupid! This little girl has an idea of what the future will hold and she isn’t afraid to tell everyone about her idea. Everyone she told thought she was crazy and all the kids in her class laughed at her. This little girl ahs taught me to speak what is on your mind and don’t let words or actions bring you down. NOTHING can stand between you and your dreams, so NEVER give up!

Strange, but True…

I have always idolized Julie Andrews. In fifth grade I wrote an essay on her FOR FUN!! I know, shocking! Anyway, I loved Mary Poppins and one of her recent movies was The Princess Diaries. All her movies were amazing and to top that she had an amazing voice AND SHE COULD DANCE! She was a triple threat and was very funny. She did a comic bit with Carol Burnett (also amazing). She also starred in The Sound of Music which is my personal favorite movie of all time! She had so many tributes to life and to the world. She could put a smile on anyone’s face every time her face showed on the television. I wanted to be just like her when I was young because I wanted to be an actress and every time I am one stage doing what I love to do (acting) I always do a good job because I think of how I can be just like Julie Andrews.

I Wonder What Will Happen…

Posted on December 6th, 2007 in Weekly Entry by willywonka

i-wonder.jpgI wonder what life would be like when I am older. I know his sounds redundant, however it is very important to me and I have always been fascinated by what my future holds. Will I be a successful physical therapist? That has been my dream since I was in 6th grade. Or, will I be a actress? That was my dream from 1st grade to 5th grade. Not only my career, how about my family? Will I have a son and daughter and a husband. Will my parents or grandparents still be alive? How about my 2 older brothers? Also, how will the environment change? Will cars be improved to not pollute the air. Will people be more considerate to animals? I guess the only way to figure these questions out is by waiting and seeing.

Ben Wilkoff’s Question

Posted on November 20th, 2007 in Uncategorized by willywonka

“What are the things that you think are so essential in the classroom that they can’t be outsourced to a virtual space? (Do they still exist? Will they always exist?) I really want to know.” -Ben Wilkoff

I really like this question. It makes me think that even though I dislike school because we have to get up early in the morning and things such as that, school is perfect for communicating. When we go to school, we communicate with everyone there whether it is talking about Friday night at the movies with your friends or discussing a math problem with your teacher, you are always talking which always helps your verbal skills. If you are home and do all your homework on the computer, then all your social skills are in the toilet because all the talking you might do is yelling at your computer if it shuts down while you are in the middle or typing your essay. That brings me into my other point; computers aren’t reliable as much as teachers are. When you are talking to your teacher and asking a question, he or she doesn’t just shut down and not work so you don’t have an answer (unless they are very sick). However, computers are very likely to do that. It has happened to me and I have lost all my work. In the future, I’m not sure if a computer or system can be created with all the technology to be as efficient as school, teachers, and books have been. On the other hand, maybe people who love to work with computers will be able to find a system that is equivalent to school, because so far in my eyes, no other educational thing can beat school. I do think schools will also become more efficient because everything is changing now and hopefully our superintendent will be able to change some things around the school system to make it easier for students and teachers lives, and that’s just my opinion.
